European Fairy Tales Compiled by Dagmar Sekorova and illustrated by Mirko Hanak
European Fairy Tales Compiled by Dagmar Sekorova, Illustrated by Mirko Hanak including selections from The Brothers Grimm and Hans Anderson
First Edition 1971, printed in Czechoslovakia by Albatros Publishers. The stories are enriched by lovely, ethereal watercolor illustrations, made by stroking paintbrushes over dampened paper. The effect is gorgeous, managing to convey detail with just a few subtle strokes.
"No one, child or adult, who has any acquaintance with fairy tales at all can fail to be aware that a great body of folktale material exists in common to almost all European nations....The fairy tales here are among the most familiar of all European stories. The versions chosen and newly translated for this book are those best known in their countries of origin."
This stunning collection of Fairy Tales is brightly illustrated and one of my personal favorites on my private shelf. It is a book of tales, many familiar and some unfamiliar, including details that might not yet be known. The compilation by Dagmar Sekorova includes nineteen stories from Hans Anderson, The Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault, Joseph Jacobs, and others. Such as Bozena Nemcova, Petre Ispirescu, Pavol Dobsinsky, A.N. Afanasjev, Madame de Beaumont, K.J. Erben and Gherardo Nerucci with Notes.
In good condition. Spine intact and no loose or torn or marked leaves. The binding is not tight. No other flaws.
